Custody and Parenting time negotiations are the most emotional topics of divorce. In most of the cases I have heard, lawyers do little to prep you for social mediation (called an SENE). They will tell you when the mediation is, tell you the important points from a legal perspective (state statute 518.17) and what will happen during mediation.
But mediation is much, much more.
• It’s mental preparation.
• It’s developing scenarios of parenting time. It’s taking time to think before mediation (in a less emotionally charged state) and stand firm with your decisions.
• It’s not only what you say, but how you say it.
• It’s creating honest stories to tell your side of the story and show you’re a good father.
• It’s learning how to deflect incorrect and hurtful stories about you.
I am a divorce consultant, specializing in custody and parenting time mediation. Over the past 8 years I have helps many men improve their mediation preparation that has resulted in a better result (each case is different and anyone that can guarantee results is lying).
I have developed strategies to help you focus on the most important topics during mediation and want to share and educate others on how to negotiate fairly yet firmly.
See you on Saturday.
